Idea #136 – Google Historical Streetview
Googles Streetview is an amazing invention, and many many years from now, it’ll be considered genius, not to mention a way for historians to go back in time and understand how life was.
But like with historical maps, how about historical streetview? We can’t go back in time filming the same way as Google Streetview does, but my idea for Historical Streetview is as follows:
A Open Source Project, a framework from Google with all the places in the world, empty. You and I and other Wikipedia-article-writing-types dig up old family-photos of our house, our neighbours house etc. at upload them to that exact spot where it looked like that, and tag it with a year, this way we’ll build a database of how different places looked at different times, and we’ll be able to go maybe close to a 100 years back.
And back in 1901:
Before a 100 years back is a challenge, course there where no photos
But it would be amazing if scientists and historians created scenery’s in Streetview of famous streets in 1850, 1750 etc.
